“Evolution” and “Means to an End”

[Misa’s] artworks are inspired by her childhood and the evolution of relationships as experienced through the lens of a Vietnamese woman. Pop culture’s depictions of Asian women have been riddled with over-sexualization or subservience, regardless of the situation that they are in. She aspires to portray Asian women with powerful femininity in the same way that old, traditional Asian paintings do while evolving beyond typical Asian (women) fetishization. Her key goals in her artwork are to express the Asian American woman’s deep strength, pain, and love.

EXPOSITION debuts its inaugural showcase in Los Angeles

The show started with Gong and co-head Jun Park introducing EXPOSITION and the artists. Gong explained how he joined and eventually started leading EXPOSITION. “Growing up, I didn’t see people who looked like me in music,” he said. As his words resonated through the crowd, I could sense the importance of his message reverberating within each person present. After Gong and Park’s heartfelt thank you for the audience’s attendance, the lights gently dimmed.
